Monte Sereno Residence, Monte Sereno, CA
Several phases of development were planned for a property in Monte Sereno. Projects included a new pool and pool house, the complete renovation and modernization of an existing 4000sf tudor home and the addition of a new steel, wood & glass trellis at the south facing garden facade. The long lines, strong geometry and material composition of the trellis create modern counterpoints to the ad-hoc construction of the existing house. The new pool house is sited on a knoll to capture views of the surrounding hills. Sliding glass walls, a double-sided fireplace and indoor-outdoor shower dissolve typical building/landscape boundaries. Passive-solar siting and massing strategies, a gray-water system and roof-mounted pv array are significant components of the sustainable construction vocabulary of the buildings.
