CARY BERNSTEIN  ARCHITECT
swissnex San Francisco, CA (In Construction)
After many years of incremental growth, swissnex San Francisco required a complete renovation to better serve its cultural events and business office. Located in historic Jackson Square, the long, narrow structure of this brick-and-timber warehouse building presents numerous challenges for program distribution and circulation.  Layered functions and flexible architecture allow each space to serve multiple uses thereby keeping the tenant footprint to a minimum.  Adjustable walls and furnishings create variable settings for receptions, exhibitions, performances, lectures and conferences.  Fixed support spaces include a catering kitchen, library and information kiosks.  The economy and technical precision of the design maximizes efficiency and performance, while the minimalist language provides a modern counterpoint to the historic construction.
